Yorkshire Amateur slipped to a 4-0 defeat to Clay Cross Town on a wet Saturday afternoon in Derbyshire in the NCEL Division One.
Ammers still had a grip on the game at half-time, The Millers leading by just the single goal after 45 minutes.
Wilfred Frimpong returned in place of Ellis Halligan alongside returnees TJ Kongolo and Jonny Daniels, completing the three changes to the starting line-up.
For Ammers it was the usual support act into the new front man as Diallo crossed to Mossolo at the near post early on, lacking conviction as he appeared to stretch to poke the ball at goal and it’s saved.
Clay Cross’ Pinnick’s first-touch inside Kadeem Morton caused the defender to slip in the rain, clearing up the forward’s sight at goal but the shot was wasted, dragged wide of the left-hand post.
As Tewolde got stuck behind his winger, had the cross not been intercepted by the outstretched boot of Craig Maynard, lifting the ball over the danger in the box, it would have found the two waiting host forwards on the penalty spot and far post respectively.
With limited dangerous opportunities to follow in the next ten minutes, Kongolo’s solution was going direct, accurate in finding the run of his own full-back Tewolde beside the host box. Cutting inside, the right-footed shot lacked the precision of the assist, straight at the ‘keeper.
With Maynard beat, Ammers faced a three versus three bearing on their own box, Boyd on the cover. The chasing Maynard recovered to delay Clay Cross enough for the chance to neutralise.
Another cross into Ammers’ box met the vital interception of the reatreating Maynard’s boot to take it offcourse from landing in possession of an attacker.
Clay Cross’ intent continued at pace for the opening goal, Mullins finishing the move by poking in from 6-yards. Pinnick attacked the byline and created the low cross into Mullins, central, yards out from goal, to force home.
Frimpong, moved on the opposite side, passed centrally as his crossing opportunty was blocked, Mboma running onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and attempting to curl, left-footed inside the far post, blocked immediately.
Frimpong’s free-kick utlised the slippy surface, skidding towards the far bottom corner and sensibly pushed away to carry it on a similar trajectory before the half ran it’s own course.
The hosts’ second came centrally, intricate passing instead requiring fast movement of the ball, finding Pinnick who placed into the bottom corner. Beginning deep, a triangle formed left-of-centre of the box kept the ball up to speed with Pinnick’s run forward to shoot across goal.
A seemingly simpler chance rebounded to him just yards out from Bojan’s parry after a shot from distance, the follow up skied.
Rio Korbel’s introduction supplemented Mossolo’s style, the forward controlling a chipped pass, on his chest, forced to turned outward from goal and shooting wide of the near post.
The third for Clay Cross combined both their direct style and the narrowness of the second, the forward running onto the ball one-on-one before finishing. The direct ball ran between Maynard and the forward’s right-hand side, the ball running across the attacker’s body, setting up the left-footed shot across goal.
A dead-ball from the spot gave them their fourth, Shelbourne placing into the bottom right-hand corner following a foul on the right as Clay Cross tried to enter the box.
The hosts slowed the pace within the final ten minutes, with the four-goal lead, controlling possession from deep areas.
Ammers attempted to up the speed, Diallo linking up with his new full-back Sam Babayale, the winger firstly attacking the far touchline before cutting the ball back, inside to the defender to shoot first-time, testing the ‘keeper’s grip to hold the shot.
Ammers slipped to defeat then in the rain in Derbyshire.
Yorkshire Amateur continue their run of midweek fixtures when they host Retford on Wednesday 4th October in the NCEL Division One.
