Ammers were denied a second victory in the week, instead falling to a 7-0 defeat against Nostell Miners Welfare in the NCEL Division One at The Welfare Ground.
Ammers, often the fault of their own detriment, were caught out by Nostell’s press, 4-0 down within nineteen minutes.
Two defensive changes were made from the victory in midweek, Paul Diamond replacing Jack Viles in goal whilst Richy Bamba covered for the absent Craig Maynard in defence.
Ammers started quickly, the through ball actually ahead of Taylor Ragan, Antony Leech slicing his clearance which teased to curl inside the post.
Ragan’s free-kick tested too, hitting against Bamba, down into the box amongst the crowd, neither of the number of boots swinging at the loose ball able to divert in.
Nostell favoured equally as unlucky with Gracjan Klimczak’s cross from the end-line teasing Rowe to lunge with his head unsuccessfully at the back post. Ammers’ early struggles against the hosts’ press showing, losing possession deep into their own half.
Richy Bamba was then successful in rounding the press initially, spinning Klimczak but again Ammers put pressure of themselves with a transfer of the possession.
Amari Smith’s weak headed clearance didn’t go unpunished for the opener to begin four goals in nine minutes for the hosts. Defending Nostell’s right, the full-back’s connected weak to the header, the all dropping into the box behind him, in front of Antony Leech to smash in with 10 minutes gone.
Nostell had as much success down their left for the number two. Cyrus Rowe is sent chasing a ball out wide and crosses, initially defended but Klimczak finishes the rebound.
A further Klimczak double made it four inside 19 minutes through his hat-trick.
Diamond tipped over Nostell’s effort for five from a shot from a tight angle from the right.
Ammers focused their early attempts at a retaliation down their left and through Smith, shielding away several defenders before moving the ball central. It found Ragan who returned the ball wide to Cameron Lyn whose delivery found a yellow shirt.
Attempts to play through were blocked again, resulting in a curled shot dropping just wide of Diamond’s left-hand post on 34 minutes.
The bar was clipped by Ammers as a sweet spot of space twenty-five yards out was found by Roy Fogarty.
The moment passed suddenly when number five followed. A similar thread of losing possession causing their own problems led to Charlie Austerfield’s deflected shot beating Diamond on 39 minutes.
Fogarty continued to pose threats for Ammers. His strength holding off his defender before turning and drilling a shot wide of the post, Nostell’s clean-sheet held until the break.
Diamond stopped six within a minute of the restart. The ball was squeezed between the two Ammers centre-halves and lifted to Diamond’s right but he’s able to connect with a strong palm, tipping over.
Rowe had a goal dissalowed to follow-up inside the opening three minutes of the second-half. He added the final touch from the goal-line but his first response was to check the flag which was raised.
Ammers were still threatening to reward Nostell’s press through their own misplaced passes. The usually reliable outlet Ragan’s time in possession had been limited all afternoon.
Rowe’s goal did stand this time. As simple as the earlier dis-allowed goal, Diamond was only able to parry a shot to his right with Rowe following up on 65 minutes.
It’s the same name again who beat Diamond to a loose ball inside the box inside the final seven minutes but stretching to poke the ball away from Ammers’ no. 1, he’s forced wide, aiming back across goal with the low shot from too tight an angle.
Harold Djeukam’s advanced position from right full-back into the box made it seven with three minutes of normal time to play, as bad as it was to get for Ammers at The Welfare Ground.
Another ten-day break follows for Ammers, Brigg Town the guests for the return to Bracken Edge in the NCEL Division One on 27th August.
