The West Yorkshire Derby between Farsley Celtic U19s and UFCA eased the way of the Celts with a 6-0 victory at The Citadel earlier this lunchtime.
Flavio Tomas scored a hat-trick while the score-line was assisted by goals from Jared Felix, Louis Fialdini and Wilfred Frimpong.
Fialdini’s missed penalty clearly went unpunished as the U19s made it four wins from their latest four matches.
A debut for ‘keeper Jamie Cosway, in for the injured Rhys Westcarr was one of four changes to the starting XI; Jack Backhouse, Ricardo Carvalho & Wilfred Frimpong replacing Amari Smith, Shawnee Eddy & Ollie Clarkson.
Frimpong was at full-speed from the 2nd minute, turning onto his right from the left touchline, then twisting back onto his left to create space inside the box. He looked to hit the ball across goal but it was blocked for a corner.
Opposite winger Tomas then shot wide of the far-right post, from the edge of the box after Yonas Melake’s 27th-minute corner.
The attack switched wings again with Frimpong in the 29th minute, knocking the ball over the tackle from the UFCA defender and advancing from left to right, into the box and hitting a shot to the near post which is pushed out for a corner by the ‘keeper.
The opening goal came from the resulting corner as Tomas headed into the roof of the net from close-range. A corner from the left was met by Tomas around the six-yard area and his run to goal met the ball’s flight to power it past the ‘keeper.
Another set-piece then found Tomas in the centre of the box but he shot over the bar on this occasion.
A missed Farsley penalty followed as Fialdini’s effort to the left was equalled by the ‘keeper.
The success for Frimpong on the left continued on 36 minutes, inside the box and knocking the ball round the outside of the defender before placing an effort to the near post but it was blocked by the ‘keeper.
UFCA shot from distance two minutes later, left of centre and looking to curl into the far bottom corner but it was well wide.
Centre-half Ricardo Carvalho then shot over. A corner delivery deflected off one of the bodies in the box, dropping perfectly for the defender but he was too much under the shot and put it over.
Farsley’s lead doubled thanks to Felix’s placed finish across the ‘keeper in the 43rd minute. Felix’s run put himself behind the UFCA defence to receive the ball. He moved infield inside the box and aimed at the far bottom-right corner, past the ‘keeper.
Frimpong started the second-half as he did the first, his shot blocked at the near post by the ‘keeper, firing from the edge of the six-yard box after pushing the ball down the outside of the visiting defender.
Farsley’s third goal came exactly on the hour mark and Tomas’s close-range poked finish at left-hand post. Tomas powered an initial header to goal, denied by the ‘keeper after a corner from the left but the ball was pushed only to Felix inside the left of the box. He knocked the ball back across goal and Tomas got to the ball first at the near post to poke in.
Fialdini was one-on-one on 61 minutes, meeting a ball over the UFCA defence. After rounding the ‘keeper, Fialdini’s shot was mis-hit wide of the near post.
He did hit the net in the 74th-minute, however, in behind, beating the ‘keeper to the ball before rounding his left once more and finishing this time.
Felix outmuscled his defender in the centre two minutes later before advancing to the box and looked to curl a shot to the bottom right corner but it went just wide.
Frimpong added the fifth on 82 minutes, placed under the outrushing ‘keeper, shot from a little outside the 6-yard area.
UFCA replied with a header glanced wide of the far post after a corner from the right before Fialdini also went close immediately after, a left-footed attempt from inside the box firing over.
A hat-trick for Tomas was completed by a diving header in the 84th minute. A corner from the right flew ahead of Tomas but his leap at the far post met the ball’s flight, completing the scoring.
The Celts travel to Morpeth in league action next Wednesday.
