Matchday 1 preview : Analysing O’Reilly’s first pre-season

Yorkshire Amateur manager Casey O’Reilly believes his first full pre-season has his side “in a strong position” ahead of their season’s opening fixture at Wombwell Town on Saturday.

O’Reilly is confident his new signings understand the proposed style of play ahead of the trip to the Recreation Ground in the NCEL Division One.

“The lads are aware of the way I want to play […] the player’s I’ve brough in are effectively who I know can do that really well,” explained O’Reilly. “The build up play is nicer, recycling the ball is better”.

The off-season has saw not only the addition of new assistant Andy Blair, alongside returning coach Emeel Mati. Will Bowler’s role as chairman as well as Matt Appleyard’s promotion to vice-chairman, among others, has managed off-field duties, allowing for O’Reilly and his players to focus on on-field matters.

“From the start it’s been about righting the wrongs of last season, not only from on the pitch, off the pitch as well,” began O’Reilly.

“Last season when I took over I had to work with what I had. I said after the last game of the season, the hard work for me now starts, where we need to recruit the players we need.

“All the off-field stuff is done and the game’s are left to the lads. There’s none of that other stuff, where there’s been too many gaps.

“We’ve got a few more lads we want to have a look at. The quality between the starting line-up and the subs is a lot closer this season than last.

“We’ll pick apart tonight [Harrogate Railway friendly], fixing the small details but I feel we’re in a strong position for Saturday”.

Tickets at The Recreation Ground tomorrow afternoon are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
