Yorkshire Amateur were beaten 6-0 from the visit of Retford FC on Wednesday evening in the NCEL Division One.
Ammers, four-down entering first-half added-time at the Southerns Stadium, then lost Toby Harris to a straight red after his arguments with the linesman following a failed penalty appeal.
Liam Frost (2), Liam Bennett, Haydn Goddard, Kenan McKenzie-Gray & Aaron Sennett-Neilson completed the scoring.
Alfie Gibbons returned into his first Ammers starting line-up this season, having impressed last campaign. Toby Harris started alongside inductees Charlie Wilkinson and Wilson Ramos, completing four changes.
Retford went ahead within two minutes through Liam Frost, the further of two free forwards at the far post. The cross from the right is met by Frost who further gave Wilkinson less chance by hitting the top left-hand corner.
With the box covered on the second occasion, Matt Thompson is found in space deeper from a knock-down following the wide delivery, outside the box with one intention, although he won’t have imagined it rising so high over goal.
Danilo Mossolo, positioned deeper, wide-right, owes his first-touch for having time to create a pass. He saw Harris’ run under the floodlights, from the blindside of Liam Bennett, only for play to be brought back by the raised flag.
From the opposite side, Haydn Goddard hooked the ball into the box, stopping it crossing the byline, met by TJ kongolo’s clearance.
Harris repaid the trust from Mossolo, the target-man successfully holding off Bennett to hold possession. The pass is returned out wide with Boyd in his typical deeper support position but the forward pass is blocked.
Frost’s second came from a similar position, alone at the far post to finish on 27 minutes.
Three minutes later and Retford’s third followed trend, a set-piece headed in by Liam Bennett. The in-swinging corner from Haydn Goddard found Bennett free on the penalty spot to finish.
Goddard went even closer from the next set-piece, taking and scoring the corner.
Sennett-Neilson created space for himself even in the congested centre, rolling the ball left with his studs, away from the aggressor infront of him. One too manty touches denies his opportunity at goal.
A minute later and his partner Liam Frost was played through one-on-one, Wilkinson winning the race to the ball to clear.
Trying to reduce the deficit in added-time, Ammers’ wingers combine down the right, Diallo inside passing outfield to Mossolo in space on the touchline. His cross finds Harris beyond the far post, behind the crowd, a weak first touch removing the chance at a shot.
He’s down in the box, again behind Bennett, the linesman unbothered about claims from the forward.
The arguments continued until Harris was removed from the field, shown a red following his conversation with the official, the ten-men remaining on the field joining him shortly after for the break.
Ammers played the second-half with slightly more possession, despite lesser men, the new target-man Mossolo’s first-touch allowing him time to then move the ball to his supporting options.
Clinical Retford, however, almost extended the lead. Sennett-Neilson’s touch controlled the ball and pushed it forward, clear of his marker inside the box, all in one, crossing on the half-volley towards the penalty spot. The finish is successful but there’s a delayed off-side decision.
It was shortly confirmed, McKenzie-Gray adding the fifth, finishing centrally, a cross from the left on this occasion.
Retford’s ability to hold possession via the width led to deliveries coming from all angles. A deeper cross from Mason Bridden on the left, entering the final five minutes, finding the forward but Wilkinson closed the angle, the distance between himself and forward making him parry the ball away.
A minute later and the sixth followed Sennett-Neilson’s decision to shoot from further afield, finding the net from outside the box to complete the scoring.
Ammers travel to Glasshoughton Welfare on Saturday to continue their NCEL Division One campaign.
