Rothwell’s first-team manager Lee Briggs, Ferullo’s manager at the West Yorkshire Division Two side, explained the intentions for Ferullo to learn the senior game.
“I said to him, ‘sometimes you’ve to pin your marker and look after the ball’,” began Briggs, “basically, learn how to take a tackle from a grown man.
“He’s a strong boy, he can deal with the physicality. I don’t think he needed an adjustment period.
“I just wanted him to learn open age football – it’s totally different to academy football”.
Ferullo’s favoured one/two-touch technique during the scholarship side’s build-up play this season, contributing two goals since his u21s call-up, has been reiterated to the forward by his Rothwell manager Briggs.
“We wanted him to link with the tens and we do play into a nine,” started Briggs, “He can play one touch, Luca.
“He’s been coming on as a nine, playing as a centre-forward.
“I wanted to him to express himself. I tell all my players, ‘you’re not going to get a telling off for trying stuff’”
