Neil Ross post-UFCA: 6 goals from “encouraging us to get on the ball and play”

Neil Ross explained how throughout Farsley Celtic u19s’ 6-0 derby victory over UFCA earlier today, he encouraged his players to “get on the ball and play”.

“It was a case of doing the right things in the right areas and they’ll get the goals,” said Ross.

“We started sloppily in the first 10-15 minutes of the game because they haven’t played for nearly three weeks now. Once we got the first goal it settled us down”.

The derby had no influence on Ross’ preparations according to the manager who said his delight with the victory came purely because it reflected yet another high level of performance from his players.

“Not at this level. It’s just about the players’ development and how to win games. How to play together and combat scenarios that happen in the game so it’s all about player development, nothing to do with derbies.

“Players should have that [mentality] anyway – if they know the opposition or if they don’t – they should have the self-pride about them to put a performance in and get the three points and that’s all we’re bothered about. Not so much the result but their performance.

“Again, we’ve set the standards high and they’ve achieved that again today”.
