Maltby Main head of media David Watts provides us his analysis of The Miners ahead of our meeting in the NCEL Premier tonight.
Watts: Maltby Main visit The Ammers on the back of a 1-1 home draw at the weekend with Emley, following a midweek win last Tuesday at Golcar.
The Miners have won both their midweek away games (Golcar, Knaresborough) and are looking for a hat-trick tonight.
Their season started in unusual fashion – changing managers during pre-season.
The new management team of Andy Dawson and Lee Whitehead gathered a squad together quickly.
They opened the campaign with a last-minute 1-0 home defeat to Frickley Athletic followed by the same result in the FA Cup v Quorn.
A 4-1 home defeat v Winterton then showed the season could be a slow progressing one. Two 1-0 defeats followed, results which warranted draws based on performance.
A victory v Knaresborough Town, succeeded by a 0-0 home draw with Barton Town, set Main off with points – deservedly.
Another late 1-0 home defeat occurred v North Ferriby as Maltby looked like getting a point.
Then followed a justified 6-2 thrashing at Thackley.
Four points were accrued from the aforementioned Golcar and Emley fixtures which takes The Miners to eight points from as many matches.
After the midweek match with The Ammers, the remainder of September for “Main” is an FA Vase trip to Cheadle Town and a midweek home game to Albion Sports, the potential for their first Saturday and home wins of the season.
