Boyd was announced as joint-manager with Casey O’Reilly yesterday, Emeel Mati promoted to becoming their assistant whilst Jacob Nyaudoh and Tom Shepherd retained their roles as coach and goalkeeper coach respectively.

The new coaching team immediately have a clear idea of how they want to play, according to Boyd.

“We have things we want to change,” explained Boyd. “We’re not going to get there in a space of a week”.

“From the conversations we’ve had with players already there seems to be excitement about the ideas we’ve got going forward.

“There’s a couple of new players we’re bringing down to training so it gives us a good idea of what they’re like.

“The relationship with the players is massive. We know already, obviously i’ve been on the pitch with them, what they respond well to so understanding that, for me, is going to be a big thing.

“Knowing that I don’t have to spend a lot of time getting to understand that relationship which is built already, knowing what kind of people they are, I can concentrate on the football on the pitch”.

Ammers’ forced relegation from the Northern Premier League East last season highlights the off-field tests Boyd inherits at the club from the previous year.

Although results are on the forefront of Boyd’s mind, the new joint-manager is aware of the want of rebuilding Ammers into a community club.

“We want to get local players playing, developing through the club. As a junior I was involved with the club, i’ve been coaching at Chapeltown Juniors for the last eight years.

“We want to bring the community together, get more people down to games. There’s got be more to it than the results”.
