Captain Mannings to return to assist U23s signings vs Alwoodley

Keanan Mannings, Ben Henderson and Mitchell Fox’s experience returning to the U23s squad against Alwoodley on Monday night will assist the new players’ understanding of the team’s system, according to manager Neil Ross.

The task set by Ross for the new players is to learn the team’s system and Ross says matches will help these players gel into the team system.

The U23s have been unable to train since their last friendly on Wednesday, Ross instead holding a team meeting to discuss areas they need to work on ahead of Monday night.

“We have Keano, Ben and Mitch Fox available so that will help the new players as the more experienced players at this level will help them through games. The experience of these three players returning will strengthen the team.

“The approach for the new players will be now to study and listen to what I want – they have to get used to our style of play.

“I think all the new players have integrated well with the squad but it’s a learning curve for them to get used to other players and the way I want them to play.

“We’ve had no time to train but I’ve spoke with the group on areas of the game we need to improve and hopefully the young lads have managed to self reflect both as an individual and as a team. Ultimately, games are going to help the players gel and get used to playing together.”
