Maltby Main assistant manager John Stancliffe says Reggie Waud’s goalscoring record is attracting transfer interest.
Farsley U23s’ Waud’s six goals in seven starts for Maltby this season leads the clubs current scoring chart and positions him the Northern Counties East Premier Division’s current joint-third top scorer this term.
“Yeah there is interest in him,” stated Stancliffe. “We know and everyone in the league knows – he is a goalscorer.
“We knew early on, pre-season, Reggie was our number one target because he would bring goals and that’s what he’s done. He comes in and he starts. For his goal ratio, even though he’s not scored today and this is no disrespect to him but I don’t remember him having a chance today, that’s what he’s in the team for.
“You don’t want your number one goal scorer running the lines and balls coming in, we do want Reggie in the 18-yard box. I think personally, Reggie has got to hold the ball up more and get involved in the link up play but I think if Reggie is honest, he’ll know that himself.
“Hopefully he’ll be here for the season playing week in week out, scoring week in week out. Come the summer and hopefully after a good season with Maltby, he can have the pick of his clubs”.
Stancliffe is in weekly contact with Farsley Celtic first-team manager Adam Lakeland due to the forward’s non-contract with the senior side, reporting Waud’s contributions.
There were no goals to report on from Waud or his teammates this week as current third-placed side Maltby lost 1-0 to Albion Sports at Muglet Lane on Saturday.
“I’ll drop Adam a message tomorrow, give him a quick briefing, let him know how Reggie’s performed. So he [Adam] is aware going into the first-team, academy training.
“You are right, we were the better team, had the better chances, looked more dangerous going forward but we’ve not been decisive enough in the final third and creative enough to create enough chances for the strikers and attacking midfielders to get the goal. We created one good opportunity and he missed from four yards out. So that’s it pretty much in a nutshell.
Waud returns to the Academy’s U23s on Monday 20th September when they host Emley AFC at The Citadel in their opening West Riding FA Development Premier Division fixture.
